Mission Statement
The mission of Literacy Programs of New Jersey (LPNJ) is to enable adult, native speakers of English, and those whose native language is not English, to acquire the necessary basic skills in reading, speaking, and writing English, thereby empowering them to participate more fully in the daily tasks of family, school, job and community.

Strategic Direction
Literacy Programs of New Jersey will meet the literacy needs of the adult population by providing: ♦ Free, individually-tailored programs with positive, measurable outcomes
♦ Quality, cost-effective small group programs ♦ Leadership on literacy issues ♦ Program-driven workshops for the literacy community ♦ Heightened responsiveness to literacy issues/needs among policy makers, funders, the media, business and others.
Literacy Programs of New Jersey will serve as the comprehensive resource for literacy by: ♦ Providing direct services to individuals ♦ Providing referrals, as necessary ♦ Placing special emphasis on serving the literacy mission of the public libraries and enhancing the value of the yearly assessment
